Italy Golden Visa Program Overview
The Italy Golden Visa, officially known as the Investor Visa for Italy, is among the most attractive
investor residency programs in Europe and the Schengen Area. It provides foreign investors and their
immediate family members (spouse and minor children) with the opportunity to obtain an Italian
residence permit without the obligation to relocate their primary residence to Italy.
Key Advantages
- No Upfront Investment Required: The qualifying
investment is made only after the visa has been
approved and must be completed within three
months of the Investor’s arrival in Italy. - Right to Work and Business Freedom: Both the
Investor and their spouse are permitted to work in Italy. The residence permit may also be converted into a work permit, subject to meeting
the applicable legal requirements.
- Priority Visa Processing: Applications for the
Investor Visa benefit from priority handling by Italian Consulates, with processing times typically ranging between one and two weeks. - No Minimum Stay Obligation: The Investor Visa is the only Italian residence option that does not require the holder to spend a minimum amount of time in Italy, making it ideal for internationally mobile investors.
- Italy as a Strategic European Hub: Italy’s central
position in Europe provides seamless access to the Schengen Area, offering excellent connectivity across major European and international markets. Combined with its renowned lifestyle, infrastructure, and quality of services, Italy serves as an ideal base for investors seeking European access without relocation constraints.
- Pathway to Permanent Residence and Citizenship:
If the Investor chooses to become an Italian tax resident and comply with local tax requirements,
permanent residence may be requested after five years, with eligibility for Italian citizenship after ten years. - Favourable Tax Positioning: Spending fewer than 183 days per year in Italy may avoid Italian tax residency, subject to conditions.
